Event overview:

As the world’s 4th largest retail market, there are extensive opportunities for West Yorkshire in India and this discussion will highlight on-going work to promote exports whilst furthering green innovation.

With the prospect of a UK-India FTA, we will examine how to combine India’s market power with West Yorkshire's expertise in sustainable production. The textile industry is one of the most chemically intensive industries in the world and the biggest water polluter after agriculture. It is the second largest employer in India, and although growth in this industry has had a positive impact on economic development, it has also led to altered production processes sometimes resulting in health hazards for workers and implications for sustainable development.

As part of the 2023 Innovation Festival, we will examine how West Yorkshire and India can work more closely to boost trade and investment in fashion and textiles in a way that furthers green innovation.
